NUOVI CITTADINI | FILIPPO LEONARDI
Tuesday 29th October 2019, 6,30 pm
Tram Diogene, roundabout C.so Regio Parco x C.so Verona, Turin
In autumn 2019 Diogene starts the Nuovi Cittadini (New Citizens) project, a series of public talks presenting the research of artists who have recently chosen to live and work in Turin. The Diogene Tram will welcome the experiences of some “new citizens” through questions and possibilities, choices and resistances: a way to present the artists to the city and investigate the delicate relationship between the permanence and mobility of the contemporary artist.
The 29th of October, for Nesxt Independent Art Festival Diogene is pleased to present the second appointment of the project with the artist Filippo Leonardi.
Born in Catania (IT) in 1970, Leonardi live and works between Turin and Catania. He graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Art of Catania. In 1999 he attended the Advanced Course in Visual Arts of the Fondazione Antonio Ratti (visiting professor Haim Steinbach) and in 2000 the training course at the Association for Contemporary Art Zerynthia, Rome. In 2001 he attended an artist residency at the Ateliers d’Artistes de la Ville de Marseille in France. In 2002 he started to collaborate with the Gianluca Collica art gallery in Catania.
Exploring the concept of Identity (personal, cultural and geographical) and the relationship between art and nature, Leonardi’s work develops into ‘cycles’ of works (installations, sculptures and participatory interventions) that address different aspects of the same concept: looking at the world with a non-anthropocentric view, recognizing the different perspective of nature (not human): animals and plants.
